  • Dingle & Slea Head tour, 9-3
The Dingle Peninsula, green, rugged, and untouched, and Dingle Town are two favorite Ireland places to tour. Dingle still feels like the fish and the farm actually matter. Fishing boats still sail from Dingle, offering visitors an escape into pure Ireland. Irish dreams have been set here on this sparse but lush peninsula where locals are fond of saying, “The next parish is Boston.”

Day 3: A Kenmare Day!
Day
  • Kenmare, Molls Gap, Kissane Sheep Farm, Ladies View Ring of Kerry tour, 9-4
Kenmare, an Irish “Tidy Town”, Molls Gap, Kissane Sheep Farm, and Ladies View, as Recommended by Rick Steves. Guidebook author and travel TV host Rick Steves is America’s most respected authority on European travel.  He has produced more than 50 guidebooks on European travel. Check out what he has to say about Kissane Sheep Farm by clicking the link Recommended by Rick Steves .  Kenmare is also one of the Irish villages featured in Christopher Fitz-Simon’s book The Most Beautiful Villages of Ireland. We depart at 9:00 a.m. from the Hotel parking lot and travel to Kenmare, County Kerry. The lovely and interesting town of Kenmare, home of the Kenmare Lace Museum is a short bus ride from our hotel. The unique beauty and charm of the town has remained unchanged from its founding in 1670. It has received the Ireland Tidy Town Award for 2013 and has the title of Kerry’s first Heritage Town Award. We have time in Kenmare to explore the Kenmare megalithic stone circle and have a leisurely lunch, a meal or “pub grub” in one of the numerous fine restaurants and pubs.  The stone circle at Kenmare has to be one of the easiest monuments to visit. It is located just a five minute walk from the centre of Kenmare Town.  From Kenmare, we travel through Molls Gap, where the viewing point at the gap affords sweeping views of Macgillycuddy’s Reeks and Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrantuohill – 3,414 feet high. Continuing from Molls Gap, we stop at Kissane sheep farm to experience a real working sheep farm with sheep shearing demonstrations and sheep dog trials.  Then it’s on our way back to Killarney.  Along the way, we experience far-reaching views over the broad valley of the Killarney Lakes. Queen Victoria and her ladies-in-waiting were so enthralled by this view that it was promptly named in their honor: “Ladies View”. Between Ladies View and Killarney, the coach will pass through The Muckross Estate and return to the Hotel at approximately 4:00pm. Evening

Depart Hotel at 9:30am to Killarney Town to see the Killarney Cathedral, Killarney House and Gardens, and Ross Castle. This castle may be considered a typical example of the stronghold of an Irish Chieftain during the Middle Ages. The date of its foundation is uncertain but it was probably built in the late 15th century by one of the O’Donoghue Ross chieftains. It is surrounded by a fortified bawn, its curtain walls defended by circular flanking towers, two of which remain. Much of the bawn was removed by the time the Barrack building was added on the south side of the castle sometime in the middle of the 18th century. Facts About Killarney Evening
